At Toorak, Charlie
is looking at the guest list for Dee's party and finds that she is not on
it. She tells
Stephen that his mother is mean, and she'd definitely bring more life to the
party than Fiona or Beryl.
Then she spots a name and cheers up, telling Patricia that she never gives
up easily. Charlie leaves.
Patricia tells Stephen that she was left off the list because she is her friend.
In bed, Dee clutches her chest and moans, taking a pill. Amanda rushes in
and asks her if she is all right.
Dee replies that it was just a twinge. Amanda tells her that she has been
doing too much for someone who
has just had a heart attack, and maybe she should cancel the party. Dee refuses,
and Amanda asks her if
it's because Barbara will be there. Dee gets annoyed and tells her that factor
isn't that important. She adds
that you only turn sixty-five once, and she is going to do it in style.
Later, Charlie tells Patricia that she will be coming to the party. She explains
that an old flame of hers was
on the list, and he owes her a favour. There is a knock at the door. Charlie
says it's probably Mrs. Mopp
reporting for duty. She opens the door and Beryl is there. Charlie tells Beryl
that Dee is out the back.
She asks Patricia what Beryl will be doing there. Patricia tells her that
she'll be waiting on Dee hand and foot.

Dee is in bed. Amanda and Beryl are with her. Dee reads out a list of things
that have to be done for the
party that night. She tells Amanda to pick up the costumes for Barbara and
Fiona. Beryl says she is looking
forward to meeting Barbara - they have spoken on the phone many times but
never met. She asks Dee if
she is looking forward to seeing Barbara. Dee replies yes, it will be interesting.
Later, Fiona, Gordon and Barbara arrive at Toorak. Beryl tells Barbara she's
pleased to meet her at last.
Wayne comes down the stairs on his way out. He tells Gordon they should keep
out of each other's way
that night. After he leaves, Gordon remarks that's a fine way to start the
day. Dee appears and tells them
it's lovely to see them all.
A bit later, Fiona tries on her costume and tells Dee and Beryl she is thrilled
with it. Barbara
comes in and Dee offers her five dresses to choose from. Barbara tells Dee
that she won't be wearing
a costume. Dee tells her not to be difficult as soon as she arrives. Beryl
and Fiona look embarrassed. Dee
tells Barbara that she could put herself out for once. Barbara tells her that
she came - that's enough.
Patricia comes through the front door and is met by Amanda, who tells her
that having virtually everyone
in the house against her must put her on edge. Barbara and Dee start shouting
at each other, and Amanda
and Patricia go in to see what is happening. Dee shouts that she is her mother,
and it's her birthday - surely
it isn't too much to ask. Barbara counters that she stopped being her mother
years ago, the day her father
died. Dee tells Barbara that his death was her fault, and she knows it. She
adds that's why she can't stand
being around her, because SHE knows it too.....
