Wayne and Amanda
can't believe it. Dee explains that she needs a male heir to carry on the
Morrell name.
Amanda tells her the kid wouldn't even be a Morrell. Dee explains that Wayne
could change his name by
deed poll. Amanda tells her the idea is disgusting. Dee reminds her that she
has just broken up a marriage.
Amanda tells her she doesn't want to know, and goes to leave. Dee warns her
that, if she tells anyone, she'll
cut her out of her will. Amanda rushes out into the corridor. She tells Stephen
that she needs to talk to him
and they go into the dining room. Amanda tells him that she isn't happy there,
and needs to get away. Her
father tells her that she can't keep running to him for money. Amanda tells
him that maybe she should go out
and find herself a rich husband. Stephen tells her that when she marries,
it must be for love. Amanda tells
him that her mother loved him, and look what she got out of it. She says she
isn't going to let someone ruin
her life for love.
Wayne and Dee are still in the living room. Wayne tells her he is interested,
but it would have to be a very
sweet deal. Dee tells him it is. Wayne explains that it could be years before
Amanda had a boy, and he'd
have a long wait for his money. Dee tells him she has thought of a series
of progressive payments. When
Wayne asks how much money they are talking about, Dee shows him a contact
and Wayne is impressed.
Dee tells him she has the first two cheques, to be signed on their wedding
day. Wayne tells her he is in,
but Amanda doesn't want to know. Dee tells him he has the incentive - he'll
have to start working on her
to get her to change her mind.

Later,
Wayne meets Amanda in the hall and tells her he wants a chat. Amanda is going
out job-hunting, and
Wayne manages to talk her into agreeing to let him drive her around.
They are driving down the street when Amanda spots a sign on the pavement
advertising for waitresses.
She tells Wayne to stop. A short while later, Wayne is standing on the path
chuckling to himself. Amanda
comes out of the establishment telling them to keep their lousy job. Wayne
points to the other side of the
sign, and it reveals the job was for topless waitresses! Amanda starts laughing
and tells Wayne there hasn't
been much to laugh about lately. He tells her they'll have to see what they
can do about that.
Amanda arrives back at Toorak and tells Dee that she had no luck finding a
job. Dee tells her that it was
nice of Wayne to chauffeur her around. Amanda tells her that Wayne is as disgusted
with her offer as she
is. Dee tells her it was a very sensible business proposition. She shows Amanda
a cheque, and tells her
she'll get it on her wedding day, plus the same amount when she gets pregnant,
and the same again when
her son is born. Amanda explains that she'll get married eventually to someone
of her choice, and probably
give her a grandson. Dee tells her she hasn't got much time left, and can't
afford to wait. Amanda asks why
it can't be with someone she cares about. Dee explains that if she doesn't
care about Wayne, he'll never
hurt her. She adds that Amanda and Wayne are so alike, they'd never make the
mistake of falling in love.
Dee tells her that, if she isn't going to give her any reason to sign the
cheque, she might as well tear it up
now. Amanda goes to tear it up, then changes her mind and drops it on her
lap. Dee smiles.

Later, Wayne
arrives with two bottles of champagne and Dee meets him in the hallway. Wayne
tells her that
at least he got Amanda laughing earlier. Dee tells him that she is having
second thoughts about the money,
and now would be a good time to follow up. She wishes Wayne luck. Amanda is
looking at the cheque in the
living room. When Wayne comes in, she shoves it down her top. She is surprised
he has champagne, and
Wayne tells her they can drink to the money they could have had.
A bit later, they go into Amanda's room. Amanda asks Wayne if he could imagine
what sort of mother
she'd be. Wayne tells her he thinks he wouldn't make a bad father - better
than his, anyway. He tells
Amanda they could both be independent and get what they want out of life if
they said yes to Dee.
Amanda asks him if he is serious and he says yes. Amanda tells him that, if
she agrees, they'd both
have to live separate lives and go their own ways after they inherit the money.
Wayne agrees. Amanda
tells him all right. Wayne gets up to rush off and tell Dee she has a deal.
Amanda calls him back and tells
him he has to propose to her properly. He gets down on one knee, takes her
hand and asks her if she will
do him the dubious honour of becoming his wife. Amanda takes the cheque from
her top and tells Wayne
that he means so much to her - what else can she say but yes....
