Later, in the
living room, Dee tells Wayne they have to prepare for Barbara's arrival. Wayne
tells Dee he
didn't know she was coming. Dee explains that, as soon as Stephen has finished
crying on her shoulder,
she'll be there like a shot, trying to persuade Amanda not to marry him. She
tells Wayne that he'll have
to take Amanda away to stay in a hotel.
Later, the video cameraman is leaving. Dee tells him she wants one copy of
the tape sent to her solicitor,
and she wants the other one. He leaves and Beryl comes in. Immediately, Dee
puts on an act and tells her
that some terrible things have been happening. Beryl asks what the video recorder
was for. Dee tells her
she wanted some things recorded for insurance purposes. She explains that
Patricia has Stephen around
her little finger. Dee says that it has all got too much for her. Beryl tells
her she should be in bed. Dee tells
Beryl she has a feeling that Barbara might arrive and she wants Beryl to tell
her that she mustn't be
disturbed on doctor's orders. Beryl tells her that she won't lie for her,
but she'll do her best.
Later, Gordon and Barbara arrive and Beryl lets them in. She tells Barbara
that the doctor told her that Dee
mustn't be disturbed. Barbara can tell she is lying and asks her if Dee told
her to say that. Beryl repeats
that Dee isn't very well. Barbara tells her that she'll tell Dee that she
did her best to keep her away,
and goes up the stairs.

Dee is in her room, sitting at her dressing table.
When she hears a knock at the door, she rushes over and
jumps into bed. Barbara comes in and looks at her. She says her name, but
Dee doesn't respond.
Barbara leaves the room and Dee opens her eyes and smiles. Barbara goes back
downstairs and tells
Beryl that Dee is asleep, and doesn't look too bright. She adds that she will
wait there. Beryl goes to make
some tea. Barbara tells Gordon that Dee looked ill, and she was afraid to
wake her in case she had another
attack. She tells him that she is still going to talk to her about Amanda.
In her room, Dee is talking to Wayne via an intercom system. Wayne tells her
that Gordon and Barbara are in
the living room. Dee tells him to get out of the study and come up to see
her - there are things for him to do.
In the living room, Gordon remarks that it's strange Amanda isn't home. Barbara
tells him that Dee probably
arranged it. She continues that she is going to wait there until she has seen
Amanda, and she is going to
see to it that Amanda doesn't become a victim of Dee's scheming. Outside,
Wayne overhears and makes his
way up the stairs. He tells Dee that Barbara isn't leaving until she's seen
Amanda. Dee tells him that she'll
see Amanda, but only when SHE'S good and ready. She adds that while Barbara
is cooling her heels, they'll
give her something to think about.

Wayne goes into the living room. Gordon and Barbara
start having a go at him, but he takes no notice.
He tells them that he only went in to see if Gordon wanted to talk business,
as he is looking after Dee's
interests at the moment. Wayne tells them that when Dee stopped him from killing
himself, he wanted to pay
her back - that's why he told her about the embezzlement. Barbara tells him
that what he is doing to
Amanda is wrong. Wayne asks her why it's wrong. They like each other and get
on well together, and
Amanda is just as interested in having financial security as he is. He tells
them it's a bit sick that they've
chosen to take Stephen's side in the matter - a man who tried to embezzle
Dee. He tells Gordon and
Barbara that they want to choose right or wrong when it suits them, and they
are a pair of hypocrites.
