Later, Andy tells Amanda that the whole idea is
childish and she needs her head read if she goes through
with it. Amanda tells him to keep his voice down - she doesn't want the others
to know. They go from the
study into the living room. Amanda asks Andy to get her an orange juice. Andy
tells her that her now and
her the other day don't go together. Amanda realises that he means when she
was talking about being
around normal people. She tells him that people like Wayne get away with too
much. Andy tells her that
people like her take a bit of getting used to. Amanda tells him that she's
fun though!
Outside, Gordon tells Barbara he doesn't understand why she didn't tell him
earlier. Barbara tells him she
didn't want anyone to know. Gordon tells her not to dwell on it and, now that
Andy's been told, she'll have
to say something to him. Barbara agrees, and goes inside.
In the living room, Amanda tells Andy that the main thing is to get away from
there without causing too
much fuss. Andy tells her he isn't really interested in how she's going to
do it. Barbara comes in and
Amanda makes herself scarce. Andy tells Barbara he's sorry she had to find
out. Barbara tells him that
she doesn't mean to be rude, but she'd prefer if he did his socialising somewhere
else. Andy tells her he
understands, and that he'll say goodbye to Stephen. Before he leaves he asks
Barbara if there's anything
she wants him to tell his mum. Barbara says no.
At Toorak, Wayne phones Don again. He asks him, after he has worked on Kevin
Palmer, to have a talk
with his mother, Beryl. He explains that Beryl is thinking of giving all her
money away to charity. Don tells
him that, as long as he puts work his way, he'll talk until the cows come
home. They agree to meet just
before one thirty the next day.

At Dural, Barbara is reading in the living room.
Stephen comes in and tells her that he and Margaret are
leaving now. Barbara acts as though she isn't interested and carries on looking
at her magazine. Stephen
asks her if she's going to see them off. Barbara goes to the bar and pours
herself a scotch. Stephen
remarks that maybe it would be better if she let herself go. Barbara tells
him she'll get over it. Stephen
tells her he loves her. Barbara replies that she hopes his job turns out well,
and he leaves. She takes a sip
of scotch, and then pushes the glass away in disgust.
Kevin arrives for work at Toorak and accuses Wayne of setting him up. Wayne
tells him that he didn't, and
he's not going to hold a grudge against him. Wayne explains that he's holding
a business lunch there the
next day, and he'd like both Kevin and Beryl there. Kevin tells him he's the
boss, and Wayne replies that
he'd better believe it.
At Woombai, Fiona and Stephen walk into reception with drinks. Fiona tells
Stephen she's sorry that
Margaret couldn't join them - she's met her but never had the time to really
get to know her. Stephen tells
Fiona there's one thing he'd like to do that night. He adds that, if the books
are in order, he'd like to
browse through them. Terry comes in whistling and greets Stephen. He tells
him that he'd better be off -
it's dancing night down at the club and he doesn't want to be late. Stephen
tells him he wants to make an
early start the next morning - no later than seven o'clock. Terry tells him
he's keen, but it won't be a
problem. Terry goes out and Fiona rushes after him. She explains that Stephen
is a different kettle of
fish from Alan Pascoe, and she doesn't think he'd appreciate being treated
like one of the boys.

At Dural, Barbara is on the phone to Patricia.
She tells her that if she wants to speak to Stephen she should
try Woombai. Barbara tells Gordon that Patricia is back from Perth and still
after Stephen. They sit down
for breakfast. Barbara tells Gordon that Patricia must have had a shock when
she heard about Stephen's
new job - there's no way she's moving to the country. Gordon tells his wife
that being nasty doesn't suit her.
Barbara apologises, and Gordon tells her she'll get over it. Barbara remarks
that she isn't so sure.
At the riding school, Stephen is impatiently waiting for Terry. Margaret tells
him to calm down - things are
more relaxed in the country. Stephen tells her they're too relaxed, judging
by the state of the books - the
place is just about broke. Suddenly, there is the noise of Terry's car horn
outside and Stephen goes to
leave. The phone on reception rings and the girl tells Stephen that Patricia
wants to speak to him. Stephen
tells her to tell Patricia he is too busy, and goes outside. Margaret tells
the receptionist that if Patricia calls
again, she should let her know as Stephen doesn't want to be bothered. She
explains that she is Patricia's
sister and, if she phones again, she'd like to talk to her.
Outside, Terry apologises for being late - he had a few too many beers the
previous night. Stephen tells him
that he's paid to be there on time, and to make sure he is in future.
Later, Stephen is talking to Fiona in reception. He tells her that the men
probably think he is a tyrant
already, but he is concerned. He adds that Alan Pascoe lets the men get away
with far too much. He adds
that the accounts are in a bad way - there's a lot of money going out and
not much coming in. Stephen tells
Fiona that he is there to make the place work, but it's going to need a bomb
under it. He adds that he is
there to get her go-ahead. He asks her if he has her backing, trouble or not.
Fiona tells him to do what he
has to do.
Kevin returns to the Palmer house from Toorak. He tells Lynn that Beryl is
still at the house. He explains that
he got talking to a man called Don Morton, who told him about a friend of
his who is looking for Australians
to work for him in London. Kevin tells his wife that Don is going to set up
an interview for him. Lynn tells him
it would be fantastic if he got the job in London. Kevin tells her that Don
spent a lot of time talking to Beryl as well.

At Toorak, Don tells Beryl he will do everything
he can for Kevin. On his way out, Wayne tells him he has
done a good job. Don tells him that he has softened Beryl up too. Wayne tells
Don that he owes him one, and
Don leaves. In the living room, Wayne tells Beryl she's been a fantastic hostess.
Beryl tells him it was very
nice of Don to take such an interest in Kevin. Wayne tells her that Don was
impressed with both of them.
Beryl tells Wayne that Don told her he makes his money work for him, and then
gives the profits to charity.
Beryl adds that she's not clever enough to do that sort of thing. Wayne tells
her that, if she took Don's
advice, she could have all the fun of being a businesswoman and do all the
good she wanted to.
Margaret is walking around Woombai when she sees Stephen arguing with Terry.
She goes into reception.
The receptionist tells her that Terry tried to give Stephen a bit of advice,
and he got all hot under the
collar. She adds that Stephen's going the right way about getting everyone
to give up on him. She tells
Margaret that Patricia called and left a message, but her timing isn't too
good. Margaret looks at the bit
of paper and laughs.
Outside, Terry tells Stephen that if he tries stomping on blokes, they'll
stomp right back. He adds that he
was only trying to give him a bit of advice, and if he doesn't want to take
it he's asking for trouble. Stephen
asks him if that was a threat. Terry tells him that, for someone who's been
in business as long as him, he's
pretty thick when it comes to handling men. Stephen tells him to get back
to work, or he'll be the first to go.
Terry throws his shovel down and tells Stephen to stuff his job. He adds that
a lot of the others will be
telling him the same thing before long. He walks off. Margaret appears and
gives Stephen the note, telling
him he's going to need it like a hole in the head. She tells him that Patricia
is coming tomorrow and asks if he
is going to put her off. Stephen tells her that if Patricia wants to waste
her time, let her - he's just in the
mood to tell her what he thinks of her. He walks off and Margaret smiles.....
