Charlie arrives at Dural and Barbara lets her in.
Charlie tells her how sorry she is to hear what happened
and says she might be able to cheer them up. There's a look of horror on Barbara's
face!
At the end of the drive, Wayne is giving details to the reporter. He tells
the man that he thought Barbara
wouldn't even have Helen in the house. The reporter tells his colleague that
it'll make a good story.
Wayne asks if it'll make the front page, and the man tells him maybe.
Inside the house, Charlie tells Barbara and Gordon she saw Wayne talking to
some reporters outside.
Charlie decides to leave. Gordon tells Barbara he'd better go outside and
stop Wayne before he says too
much. Barbara tells him it's no use - it'll only give them more to write about.
Barbara has a headache and
goes to lie down. Gordon gets on the phone to Amanda and tells her he wants
to talk about Wayne.
Outside, Wayne tells the reporter he doesn't want to be paid for the story,
and he doesn't want to be
named as the source. The reporter asks him why he doesn't want money, and
Wayne tells him he just
wants to set the record straight. After he drives off, the man tells his colleague
he's got a chip on his
shoulder the size of a railway sleeper.
Gordon has told Amanda about Helen's death and she sends her love. She asks
if he and Wayne are
friends again. Gordon tells her that he and Wayne will never be friends. He
adds that he was trying
to use the letters as emotional blackmail. Amanda disagrees, and tells Gordon
all Wayne wanted to do
was tell him how he felt. Gordon tells her that Wayne might have told the
Helen and Roland story to
The Press, and he wants her to find out what he's told them. Amanda tells
him she doesn't think Wayne
would have said anything. Gordon tells her she's changed her tune and asks
why she's defending Wayne.
Amanda tells him that she's got to know him a little better.

At the riding school reception, Patricia runs into
John. John is very curt with her and walks out. Patricia
is upset and sits down, but John comes back in and sits down with her. He
apologises. He tells her that
Angie is doing fine - Rob has a job he likes and they're both very happy.
Patricia tells him that she often
thinks about the pair of them. John tells her he's sorry it didn't work out
with Stephen. There is an
awkward silence, so John goes to leave. Patricia tells him she'll be there
until after the launch and will
probably see him around. John leaves and Margaret walks in, telling Patricia
to wipe the smirk off her
face - she obviously knows that Beryl is there. Margaret tells her there's
nothing going on with David.
Patricia tells her she didn't say a word, but offers her some advice. She
tells Margaret to make David
dissatisfied with Beryl - that's how she got him. Patricia leaves and Margaret
looks annoyed.
At Toorak, Amanda lets a drunken Wayne in and he goes straight into the living
room for another drink.
Amanda offers him a coffee but he tells her to cut the phoney sympathy - she's
only there to try and get
something on him.

Wayne tells her that he's known for ages. He adds
that he's been stringing her along, and is one step
ahead of her. Wayne tells her he made her think he's not such a bad bloke,
and he had her fooled. He
says he's a deadhead - about as low as she could find. Amanda goes over to
him but he pushes her away
and tells her to pack her bags and get out, saying that he doesn't want any
of the money and they can
all go to hell. Amanda starts to protest, so he throws his glass of scotch
at her, narrowly missing her.
Amanda looks terrified and rushes out. Wayne helps himself to another drink.
Later, Amanda has changed and puts a case down in the hall. She goes into
the living room, where Wayne
is sprawled out on the sofa. She strokes his face and looks at him sadly.
The next morning, Wayne wakes up on the sofa. Amanda comes in with some coffee
and Wayne tells her
he thought he told her to get out. Amanda tells him she couldn't leave him
the way he was. Wayne tells
her he doesn't need her, but she ignores him and gives him a drink. Wayne
asks her why she should care.
Amanda shakes her head and tells him she doesn't know.
Later, Amanda is on the phone to Gordon. She tells him that Wayne is drinking
too much and has kicked
her out, so she'll be coming back to Dural. Gordon tells her it gets him off
the hook with Barbara, as he
hasn't told her she's gone back to Wayne. They hang up and Amanda walks into
the living room. Wayne
appears with a bottle of scotch and Amanda says goodbye. He says goodbye and
Amanda asks if there's
anything he needs before she goes. Wayne looks at the bottle and says he has
everything he needs. He
reminds her they've said goodbye, so Amanda leaves. Wayne starts drinking
from the bottle.
