At reception, Alan Pascoe tells Stephen that all
the guests have been accounted for, but he's worried
about Patricia and Margaret - they both went riding separately but neither
has been seen since. He and
Stephen rush out.
In the forest, Patricia tries to stand, but collapses. She cries out for help.
Margaret changes her mind,
turns the horse around and gallops back to the clearing. She gets off and
goes to help Patricia to her
feet. Then Margaret's horse runs off, and Patricia asks what they are going
to do now.
Stephen and Alan are riding along a smoky track when a horse runs out in front
of them. Alan stops the
jeep when they realise it's from the riding school, and Patricia was riding
it.
Margaret and Patricia are still struggling through the forest when Patricia
collapses, saying she can't
go on. Then they hear Stephen and Alan shouting and shout back in response.
Eventually the two men find them.
Later, Patricia and Margaret are sitting in reception. There are a lot of
people standing around, so Alan
tells them to leave. Margaret decides it would be better if they went into
the office and Alan tells them
the doctor is on his way. Stephen thanks Margaret for what she's done. Margaret
looks at Patricia and
says that anyone would have done the same.

In the office, the doctor has finished examining
Patricia and Margaret. He tells them they are both very
lucky and if it wasn't for Margaret, they would have both been goners. The
phone rings and it is David,
who wants to talk to Margaret. Stephen shows the doctor out and Margaret starts
talking to David. He
tells her that he's injured himself again and will have to stay put for a
few days instead of going back
to Melbourne. Later, after Margaret hangs up, she tells Patricia it wasn't
easy talking to David in front
of her. Patricia tells her it isn't the time for cheap shots - they've been
through a lot together that day.
She explains that she knows sometimes they've been disgusting towards each
other, but she'll never
forget that she cared enough not to leave her in the fire. She thanks Margaret,
who says she would have
done it for anyone. Patricia gets upset and says she's sorry they can't use
what happened to bring them
a little closer. She says that when they were very small, she used to look
up to her and today was just
like all those years ago. Margaret tells her that she must have realised now
that she's not really a threat
to her, not after that day. She says that she couldn't leave her, and doesn't
hate her. Margaret adds that
her attempts to get at her have all been a waste of time. Patricia asks her
if they can come to some kind
of understanding. Margaret tells her they could never be friends and the best
they can do is just ignore
each other. Patricia tells Margaret she'll make it up to her. Margaret says
it's up to her, and leaves.

Andy arrives at Dural to see Amanda, and Barbara
lets him in. She asks him how he's been coping after
the funeral. Andy tells her he's been taking one day at a time. Barbara tells
him she's glad, and Andy
goes upstairs. Charlie arrives and tells Barbara she has to see the newspaper.
The headline on the front
reads "MOTHER OF LOVE CHILD FOUND DEAD IN LOVER'S WIFES' POOL."
Patricia hobbles into the riding school reception on crutches and Stephen
tells her he doesn't know what
he'd have done if he'd lost her. The receptionist leaves and they both sit
down. Stephen asks Patricia if
she's still willing to become a simple country housewife. Patricia smiles
and the pair kiss each other.
Later, Beryl has been talking to Margaret about looking after David for a
few more days. She leaves the
reception as Patricia comes in. She tells Margaret she overheard a bit of
what they were talking about,
and understands how she feels about David. Margaret tells her it was so nice
to feel wanted for a change.
She adds that, if she spends any more time with him, it'll be worse for her.
Patricia tells her if she has a
chance of some happiness for a few days, she should grab it - at least she'll
have something to remember.
Margaret grabs her hand and tells her she will. She rushes out after Beryl.
At Dural, Barbara calls Andy down into the living room. She shows him the
newspaper headline. Barbara
says she had an idea Wayne spoke to the reporters, but she didn't think he'd
sink that low. She tells
Andy she's been trying to phone Wayne for the last three quarters of an hour,
but there's no answer. She
says there's only one answer - she'll have to go to Melbourne and face him.
Barbara invites Andy to come
with her and offers to pay his way. Andy is more than happy to oblige. Barbara
tells him by the time she's
finished with Wayne, he'll wish he'd never been born.....
