Wayne is stunned, and asks Amanda if she's having
him on. She tells him it'd be a rotten joke if she was!
Wayne is thrilled and hugs Amanda. When he pulls away, she looks disappointed.
Wayne gets a drink and
tells her that, with the way he treated her to get the baby, she must think
it's the money he's happy about.
He adds it's just the icing on the cake. Wayne continues that he's going to
make sure she's happy living
there and they can turn one of the rooms into a nursery. Wayne says it'd be
stupid trying to kid the family
it's anything except what it is and they'll look after the baby properly,
even though they're just friends.
Amanda looks disappointed and agrees, saying even friends can make good parents.
Wayne asks her if
they can keep it to themselves for a few days. Amanda agrees and tells him
she's glad he's happy.
Later, the pair are playing backgammon. Amanda isn't happy that Gordon is
coming, and tells Wayne he'll
wonder why he's suddenly on top of the world. She gets up and tells Wayne
that Gordon is one of the
grandfathers - they owe it to him to say something. Wayne tells her they owe
Gordon nothing, and there's
only two people the baby will need - her and him. Amanda tells Wayne to make
an effort with Gordon.
He replies that he'll think about it, and thanks her for caring.

The next morning, Amanda tells Wayne she is going
over to see Lynn as she doesn't know the first thing
about having babies. Wayne laughs. She asks him if he's thought any more about
Gordon. Wayne tells
her that he'll try with him - just for her. Amanda tells him that she loves
him, then realises what she's
said. She continues that she does love him, and is sick of pretending that
she doesn't. Wayne is surprised
and tells her he didn't have a clue. Amanda tells him that's how she feels,
and he doesn't have to say
anything. She leaves, and Wayne looks perplexed.
Later, Amanda arrives at the Palmer house and sees Lynn and Andy kiss and
hug through the window.
The pair notice her and stop.
Gordon arrives at Toorak and Wayne takes him into the living room. He tells
Wayne he expected him to
be a mess. Wayne tells his father that everything's changed - he's got something
to work for now. He
asks Gordon how he feels about becoming a grandfather, and Gordon looks shocked.
At the Palmer house, Amanda tells Lynn and Andy that she's not going to tell
anyone. Lynn tells her they
haven't done anything, and Amanda says she believes her. She says she knows
what it's like to be in love
with someone she shouldn't, so she won't stir. Amanda tells Lynn she hasn't
forgotten what she did to
her and Kevin, and Lynn says she hasn't. Amanda tells Lynn to be happy in
London and tells her that
Kevin's a lucky guy.

Amanda goes to leave, and Lynn tells her she didn't
say what she came for. Amanda tells her it isn't
important, and they need her around like a hole in the head. She says good
luck and leaves. Lynn tells
Andy she used to think Amanda was a little brat. Andy holds Lynn and tells
her that Amanda is just
starting to grow up.
At Toorak, Gordon tells Wayne that the child needs proper parents. Wayne asks
Gordon, when he was
going to marry a pregnant Jill, what sort of father he thought he'd make.
Gordon admits he thought he'd
make a very good father. Wayne tells him that he's happy about getting Dee's
money, but it isn't just that.
Gordon tells Wayne that he believes him. Wayne tells Gordon that he hopes,
once the baby comes, he'll
treat it right. Gordon assures him he'll never make the baby cut off from
him and Barbara, just because
of what's between them. Gordon says that he is worried about Amanda, and asks
his son if he is aware
that she loves him. Wayne asks him how he knows and Gordon replies that he's
not blind. He tells Wayne
he must realise how difficult her position is - living with a man who doesn't
love her. Wayne tells him that
he likes Amanda. Gordon tells Wayne that Amanda would have to stay with him
for the baby's sake and get
no love in return. Wayne replies that he's got the perfect cop-out, as he's
been blacking out lately. He
explains that, from now until Amanda gets home, he's going to have another
blackout and forget she even
told him she loved him - it'll make it easier on both of them.
