In the office at the riding school, Jill is worried
about Fiona. Stephen tells her no one expected her to
rush off like she did. Jill tells him something else has been bothering her.
She is interrupted by Patricia
coming in. Stephen tells Jill he will be working over at the house, and to
contact him there. Patricia asks
Jill if she can have the cases of beer that arrived sent back. Jill tells
her they're for the party for the tent
people. Stephen tells his wife they could take over as hosts, but Patricia
isn't very keen. Stephen reminds
her he is the manager, and Jill tells her she will be expected to be there,
as his wife. Stephen and Patricia
walk into reception, where Patricia reminds him that Wayne and Amanda are
arriving, and that the whole
visit is just a PR exercise to show him how happy Amanda is. Stephen tells
her they'll talk about it later.
Later, Stephen and Patricia are eating lunch at the main house. Stephen says
he feels guilty about moving
in there - Fiona's only just left. Patricia tells him he's the manager - he's
entitled to it. She adds that he
could get a job in Melbourne any time. Stephen tells her the only way he'd
change his mind was if he
could set up his own business, but they haven't enough money so it's out of
the question.
Outside, Wayne and Amanda get out of a car. Wayne tells his wife not to worry
- Stephen will be happy
to see her. Amanda isn't too sure. Wayne assures her it'll make all the difference
once he knows how much
they love each other. Wayne says that he does love her. Amanda replies that
he's never said it before, and
asks him about Jill. Wayne tells her she's his wife, and is carrying his baby.
He assures her that all he
wants from Jill is a friendship.

Later, inside the house, Wayne tells Patricia that
he and Amanda do love each other. Patricia digs that
Dee's money doesn't come into it. Wayne says it does, but they're looking
forward to building a life
together and becoming parents. Amanda is very quiet, and tells them to excuse
her - she is feeling weary
after the trip. She leaves, followed by Wayne. Patricia tells Stephen that
Wayne spins a good yarn. She
adds that she thinks Amanda is genuine, but is in for a shock when she's produced
the baby. Stephen tells
her he doesn't know what to think. He adds that he hates the thought of Amanda
spending the next few
months so far away from them.
Later, Amanda walks into the living room where her father is working. He asks
if she's all right and she
replies that she can't relax. Stephen tells her if it's all nonsense about
her and Wayne, she shouldn't be
afraid to say so. Amanda tells him it's all true. Stephen tells her he's getting
fond of the idea of being a
grandfather. Amanda wants to say something but Stephen interrupts her, telling
her he'll probably spoil
the poor kid rotten. Patricia comes in and tells Stephen that Alan Pascoe
wants to see him. They leave and
Amanda looks miserable. The phone rings and Patricia shouts out and asks Amanda
to answer it. She does
and Robin is on the other end. He asks to talk to Patricia, and Amanda calls
her. She tells Robin she isn't
handling the situation - she tried to tell daddy a few minutes ago, but he
and Wayne are really looking
forward to the baby. She adds that she'll tell Wayne first, then her father.
Robin tells her that would be
silly, but she ignores him and gives the phone to Patricia.

Robin tells Patricia he's found a perfect way to
separate Wayne from his money, although a serious
problem has come up. He asks Patricia to help him solve it, and they'll both
be laughing.
Later, Amanda is dressed and walks into the living room. When she sees Patricia,
she turns away and starts
to walk out. Patricia tells her there's no need to ignore her - her and Wayne
are there to show what
reformed characters they are. Amanda tells her it's her dad she's interested
in seeing. Patricia tells her
Robin told her about the miscarriage, and that it'd be silly to tell everyone
before she got the money.
Amanda is furious and tells Patricia that Robin had no right to say anything
to her. Patricia tells Amanda
she's never going to live down her wicked stepmother image, and Amanda says
no. Patricia says that she isn't
totally heartless, and understands how she must feel. Amanda goes to leave,
but Patricia tells her it might
be fine now, as she knows Wayne - she brought him up. She continues that,
when the pressure's on, Wayne
is back to starters - and there's going to be lots of pressure, and the one
who's going to miss out is her.
Amanda asks her why she's so concerned all of a sudden. Patricia tells her
maybe she wants to make up for
a few things. Amanda replies that she's sick of lying about it - money or
no money. She rushes outside,
followed by Patricia, where she sees Wayne walking along with Jill. Patricia
tells her there's her real
problem - he still loves Jill. She warns Amanda that, if she tells Wayne she's
lost the baby,
he'll go back to Jill like a shot.

Later, Patricia is on the phone to Robin. Patricia
tells him that Amanda won't say anything. Robin replies that,
as soon as the cheque's cashed, they're guilty of false pretences - then they've
got them where they want
them. Patricia tells him she's sure that Wayne would be prepared to make do
with half a loaf, once he
considers the alternatives. She adds that everything is fine between her and
Stephen on a personal level,
but she'll never be able to get him away from Woombai until she can set him
up in his own business - and
thanks to him, she might be able to do that shortly.
Later in reception, the party is in full swing. A Mrs. Pike asks Patricia
if she's interested in joining the
C.W.A. Patricia tells her she'll think about it, and makes her excuses. She
begins talking to Wayne, and
then Stephen joins them. Jill starts talking to one of the workmen, who tells
her that he bet that Stephen
threw Terry out - he couldn't have his wife throwing herself at one of the
hired hands. He explains that
he was on the other side of the water hole when he saw Jill arrive, so he
left. Jill asks him what he
saw. The man explains that Mrs. Morrell was as keen as mustard. Jill tells
him she wants to hear more,
and asks the man to wait for her in the office. Jill goes over to Wayne and
tells him she can prove that
Patricia was lying about Terry, and asks him to come with her.
The pair walk into the office, where the workman is. Jill asks him to tell
Wayne what he saw at the water
hole. The man feigns ignorance, saying her doesn't know what she means. He
leaves. Jill tells Wayne to wait
in the office and goes after the man. The man - Ron - tells her that if he
told a story like that to one of the
bosses, he'd lose his job. Jill tries to talk him round, but he won't change
his mind.
Back in the office, Wayne tells Jill that Ron has a point. Jill tells him
that Patricia isn't getting away with it.
She adds that Fiona has been like a mother to her - she can't stand back and
let this happen to her. Wayne
tells her there's not much she can do. Jill explains that, up until now, her
and Patricia have always got along
pretty well. Wayne warns her that, if she's thinking of taking on Patricia,
she could come off second best.
Jill tells him she doesn't care - the first thing she's going to do is phone
Gordon and tell him about Ron's
story. She tells Wayne that, one way or another, Patricia's going to get what's
coming to her.....
