When Beryl
gets home, she phones Patricia, who tells her she's decided to use some of
Margaret's money
for charity in a way that could be a memorial to her. She asks Beryl if she
could provide her with names
of people who could best advise her. Beryl tells her she doesn't mind. Patricia
asks if they can get together
later that evening, and Beryl tells her she'll be home all evening if she
wants to come over. Patricia tells
Beryl she'll see her later. Beryl hangs up and looks surprised.
Later, Patricia arrives and Beryl gives her a list of names and telephone
numbers. Patricia asks Beryl if
she knows whether the people will be free for drinks the following night,
and Beryl says she has no idea.
She tells Patricia not to waste their time unless she plans to do something
really worthwhile. Patricia looks
at her coldly and says she doesn't make empty promises - she's doing it for
Margaret. She thanks Beryl
and they walk to the door. Patricia tells Beryl that her and Jim should come
the following night. Beryl says
so that's it - she wants to cause trouble between Jim and her. Patricia asks
why she would do that, and
says she's paranoid - maybe her relationship with Jim isn't as strong as she'd
like it to be. Beryl tells
her she'll come the following night - with Lynn. Patricia leaves and looks
annoyed.
Shortly, Patricia arrives next door and Jim gets her a drink. Patricia says
she thinks she's finally coming
out of her depression and is throwing herself into a worthwhile project. She
explains about her plans
for a memorial to Margaret, and tells him that her and Beryl haven't always
been the best of friends, but
she's planning to change all of that. Patricia says that Beryl gave her a
list of names, and she's invited
them over for drinks the following night.

She also tells Jim she's invited Beryl and Lynn,
and Jim realises that she couldn't have invited him as there
might have been tension between the two women. Patricia says she hopes she
can cope with entertaining all
those people. She also tells Jim she hasn't taken a pill since he left and
is determined to keep off them.
Jim says he's only a phone call away if she needs him. Patricia says she's
sure it won't come to that.
The following night, Patricia is hosting the drinks party. She is talking
to a man and a woman. The woman
asks her what kind of thing she has in mind and Patricia says she doesn't
know, and the idea of that night
was to try and get a few ideas. The woman suggests setting up a scholarship
in Margaret's name, and
Patricia says she likes that. A short time later, Patricia tells the pair
she has to make a phone call. She calls
Jim and tells him she just wanted to talk to him for a few minutes, and hasn't
taken any pills. She adds that
she feels so tense and needs something to calm her down. Jim tells her he's
coming over, but Patricia tells
him he can't - Beryl's there. She adds that the last thing she wants to do
is cause trouble between the two
of them. Jim tells her not to worry about Beryl, and he's glad it's all going
to come out in the open. He
says that if Beryl makes a fuss about it, she's not the woman he took her
for. Jim says he'll see her soon.
Patricia looks very pleased with herself.
Later, she is talking to a woman called Shirley Ryan, who tells her she'd
like her to go to the home and
meet some of the children. Patricia says she'd love to. Patricia tells her
they'll have to make a definite date,
and the idea of a new wing being a memorial to Margaret sounds right to her.
There is a knock on the door,
and Patricia goes and lets Jim in. He tells her he'll stay until everybody's
gone. They go into the living
room. Beryl is telling Lynn that Patricia is on her best behaviour when Patricia
and Jim appear in front of
her. Beryl looks stunned.....
