At Toorak, Patricia and Jill arrive back from the
hospital. Patricia tells Jill that the muscle movement in
Robin's arms is a good sign. Jill asks Patricia about the little girl from
the children's home, and says that
Patricia has never struck her as the sort of person who'd be interested in
kids. Patricia says that Lucy
reminded her of when she was a kid, and would like to do something for her.
She tells Jill that she hopes
Lucy's visit that day doesn't turn into a disaster. Jill says that maybe she
can help.
Later, Patricia, Jim and Lucy are playing football on the lawn when Jill turns
up with Fee. Patricia shows
Fee to Lucy, who says she doesn't like babies and tells her to take it away.
Patricia follows Lucy into the
house and tells her she's going to make them something to eat. She tells Lucy
she's surprised she didn't
like Fee, but they all have their reasons for liking or not liking someone.
Lucy says nothing. Patricia says
she was hoping that today would turn out to be special for her.

Lucy asks Patricia why she should care about her.
Patricia says because she does, but the girl tells her
that's not a proper answer. Patricia tells her that, at the moment, there's
no one in her life that she really
cares about and she thinks it's important for people to have somebody that
they can feel close to. Lucy
says they get a lot of people who come to the home and say they care, but
they take them out a couple of
times, buy them lots of ice cream and they never see them again. Patricia
asks Lucy to give her the chance
to prove she's not one of those people. She tells Lucy she'll leave it for
her to decide, and leaves.
Later, Patricia has organised a spread on the dining table. She tells Jill
she's wondering why Lucy reacted
to Fee in the way she did. Jim and Lucy come in with some ice cream. Lucy
is amazed at all the food on the
table, and goes to wash her hands with Jim. Patricia tells Jill that Jim is
a bigger kid than Lucy. Jill tells
Patricia she enjoys having him around and Patricia agrees, saying he's a lot
of fun.
That night, Patricia is listening to classical music when Jim returns from
the children's home. He tells
Patricia that on the way back, Lucy told him she'd like to come again, and
Patricia is delighted. She tells
him that Jill phoned while he was out, and told her that Fiona is on her way
over to do battle with her, as
she doesn't like her having anything to do with Jill. Jim offers to deal with
Fiona when she arrives, but
Patricia tells him Fiona's not easily put off. There is a knock at the door
and Patricia answers it. A man
from the cemetery is there, who tells Patricia he has bad news - her sister's
grave has been badly
desecrated.....
