Patricia recognises the man - it's Paul Sheppard.
She reaches into his coat pocket and takes out the keys,
rushing out of the house. Lying on the floor, Paul stirs.
Later, Patricia is sitting in the living room while two policemen search the
house. They go into the living
room and tell Patricia that Mr. Sheppard has left the house. He asks if she
has any idea why he'd do this to
her. Patricia tells the officer she hasn't seen him for a year and they never
got on but..... She apologises for
doing the wrong thing and running off - she should have done something to
keep him there. The officer tells
her she did the right thing - she was much safer at her neighbours. Patricia
asks what happens for the rest
of the night. The officer tells her there'll be a couple of men stationed
outside, and they'll make sure she's
safe and get cracking on Mr. Sheppard first thing in the morning. Patricia
tells him she hopes they find him
quickly because, if he comes back, she doesn't think she's got a second chance.
The next day, the officer is with Patricia in the living room. Patricia asks
him what he means, asking her if
she'd like to amend her statement? The officer tells her there are laws preventing
people from filing bogus
complaints - it's called Public Mischief. Patricia asks him if he's saying
he doesn't believe her. The man says
not at all - they're just giving her the chance to drop the whole thing if
she wants to.

Patricia shouts at the officer to tell her why
he doesn't believe her - she knows Paul Sheppard was there
and wants to know why he's doubting her. The officer tells her a number of
people they've interviewed
have told them she's been unstable lately. He adds that's not the major factor
- they've checked on
Mr. Sheppard and he's in London, and there's no record of him re-entering
the country. The officer
tells Patricia he wouldn't like to see her put through the embarrassment of
being charged.
Patricia loses her temper and tells him she doesn't believe it - she was the
one nearly murdered and now
they're talking about charging her! She tells him that Paul Sheppard's a very
wealthy man - if he
wanted to come back and murder her, what better alibi does he have by being
in London? Patricia adds
that she's sure you can get through customs if you're willing to pay enough.
The officer gets up and
tells her that they will continue with their investigations and will be in
touch. He says they can't keep
officers stationed there permanently - perhaps it would be better if she stayed
with friends. Patricia
remarks "What friends?" The officer leaves and Patricia isn't happy.
Later, Patricia is in the room of a Travelodge, on the phone. The woman at
the other end tells her she can
get her on a first class flight to London tomorrow night. Patricia asks if
there's anything today, but the
telephonist says no, but she can put her on the waiting list. Patricia thanks
her. The woman asks her if it's
one-way or return. Patricia says one-way.

At the apartment, Amanda says she's looking forward
to this like a hole in the head. Andy tells her not to
go. Amanda says she hasn't got much choice - the last thing she wants to do
is give in to Wayne, but if it's
going to help Gordon... Andy tells her he's decided to go away for a while.
Amanda asks where, and he tells
her he's going to take his van into the country areas, where he reckons he
could drum up a lot of business.
Amanda asks when he's leaving and he says as soon as possible - Lynn's not
going to see him and Barbara
doesn't want to know about him, so what's keeping him there? He invites Amanda
but she declines, saying
she's a city kid through and through and wants to make sure Barbara wakes
up to Wayne. Andy tells her to
forget him, but Amanda says she can't - she's as bad as he is with Lynn. She
can't love him, but she can't
forget him. She gives Andy a kiss and leaves.
Amanda arrives at Dural in a taxi and meets Fiona outside. Fiona tells her
that Gordon's doing far too much.
Amanda tells her she'll have to see what she can do. She asks Fiona if she's
going to the boarding house.
Fiona says yes, and Amanda asks her if she can give Lynn a message. Inside
the house, Wayne tells Gordon
that Amanda has arrived. Outside, Fiona tells Amanda she'll tell Lynn as soon
as she arrives - that should
help her to decide one way or the other. Wayne comes out and Fiona leaves.
Amanda asks if they have to
go through with this today. Wayne says Gordon's expecting her, so she should
smile. Amanda tells him she
thought he might at least try to understand how she's feeling. Wayne tells
her he gave up worrying about
her feelings the day he found out she didn't want his child. He goes in and
Amanda follows him. They go
into the living room, where Gordon warmly greets his niece. Wayne offers Amanda
a drink, and she says
yes. She sits down with Gordon and asks him what he's been doing. Gordon says
a large amount of nothing
and he can't wait to get back to work. Amanda tells him not to do things too
quickly. Wayne smiles smugly.
