Amanda sits down, and Wayne tells her he's not
kidding how bad the company really is. He says it's not
him he's asking for, it's Gordon. Amanda says he'll do all right out of it
as well, and tells him he knows
what he has to do if he wants any money out of her. Wayne tells her to go
to hell, and that he wouldn't
beg from her if she was the last person on Earth. He tells Amanda she should
have a good look at herself -
the family's in a mess, and she's using it to have a crack at him. Wayne adds
that he might have done some
rotten things in his time, but he knows how to help his family when they need
it. He storms out. Lynn comes
in from the bedroom and tells Amanda that Wayne sounded genuine to her. Amanda
tells her Wayne can put
on a good act when he wants to, and says that if there was anything seriously
wrong Barbara would have
been in touch. She adds that Wayne upsets her every time she sees him. Lynn
says she has to relax more.
Amanda tells her she'll cancel her date that night, and says she wouldn't
blame her if she walked out after
the way she's been carrying on. Amanda tells Lynn she'll try and pull herself
together.
The next morning over breakfast, Amanda tells Lynn she didn't get much sleep
- she was thinking about
what Wayne said. Lynn tells her she should call Barbara. Amanda calls and
Wayne answers. When he hears
her voice, he hangs up. Lynn tells Amanda she should go to the Hamilton's
and talk to Barbara. Amanda says
she will - if there's trouble, she wants to help.

Amanda approaches the house at Dural in a taxi.
She sees Liz Smith talking to Wayne, and the cab reverses
back up the drive.
Back at the apartment, Amanda tells Lynn that Wayne must be the world's greatest
con man - he had her
believing that he really needed help. She adds that, if they were short of
money, there's no way Wayne
would be paying Liz to keep up her little act. Lynn asks her to go to Irene's
with her, as she gets home
today and Lynn wants to leave her a cake and a "Welcome Home" note.
Amanda agrees to go - anything
to stop her thinking about Wayne.
Later, Amanda and Lynn are walking towards the boarding house. Lynn is pushing
Davey in a pushchair and
Amanda is carrying a cake. They meet Todd outside the house, and Lynn introduces
them. The pair are
instantly attracted to each other. Todd asks Lynn to tell Irene he'll drop
by and see her another day. He
gets in his car and drives off. Lynn tells Amanda she wouldn't think he was
Irene's son - he's so offhand
about meeting her after all these years. Amanda says that he's cute though,
and asks Lynn if she has his
phone number. Lynn reminds her that she said she was going to stop chasing
men for a bit. Todd returns in
the car and asks Amanda if he can call her some time. Amanda says no thanks,
but tells him to pick her up
at eight that night instead. She asks Todd if he has a pen and paper, and
gives the cake to Lynn. She tells
Todd she'll give him her address. Lynn sighs.
