Later, Todd arrives at the apartment and asks Amanda
if she's ready. Amanda says she isn't, so Todd tells
her to hurry up - it's an hour's drive to the restaurant. Amanda asks him
what happened with his mother.
Todd says she had a valid point of view and it could be worth seeing more
of her. Amanda wants to know
more, so Todd says it seems that Irene had a bit of a battle over him, but
his father had the influence. He
tells Amanda to get ready. She tells him he's unreal. Todd says they've been
invited for lunch tomorrow, and
he hopes she likes boring Sunday roasts. Amanda smiles and he tells her to
hurry up.
The next day, Amanda and Todd arrive at Irene's flat. Todd gives Irene a bunch
of flowers and introduces
her to Amanda. Irene tells him they've met briefly before. Todd says he's
brought Amanda to protect him,
and says he was going to bring a classy little red, but it's a bit out to
bring your own wine these days. He
says he'll dash out and buy some if she hasn't got any. Irene tells him things
aren't so bad she can't afford
a classy little cask from time to time. Todd goes into the kitchen, and Amanda
tells Irene that you get used
to him. Irene tells her she'll just pop out and see how the common old roast's
going. She goes into the
kitchen and Amanda sits down, looking awkward.

Later,
Amanda, Todd and Irene are eating their meal. Todd, who has obviously had
too much wine, is talking
very loudly and showing himself up. Irene and Amanda are sitting there, looking
uncomfortable. Todd goes
into the kitchen to get some more wine. Irene tells Amanda that Todd certainly
knows how to make a fool
of himself. Amanda says you get used to him, but he does some strange things.
She adds that, when you get
to know him, he's really nice. Irene tells her he's really nice and drunk
at the moment, and asks if he does
that often. Amanda says it's the first time she's seen it. Irene says it must
be for her benefit, along with
dropping the names of all the best discos, the best restaurants and the best
clothing stores. Todd is
listening when Irene tells Amanda that, regardless of what she may think,
it seems her son has turned out
to be a vain, shallow little twit. Todd looks disappointed.
A bit later, Todd is ranting on about out-racing another car on the road.
Irene and Amanda don't look too
pleased. Amanda tells him she doesn't think it's very funny, and he replies
that you had to be there. He says
that his fellow passengers were out of it, and it was lucky he was driving.
Amanda shouts that's a lot more
than he can do at the moment. Todd takes the mickey out of her, saying she's
preaching. He then attempts to
balance one wine glass on top of another, spilling wine on the tablecloth
and Amanda's dress. Irene shouts
that she's put up with him for as long as she can - he's nothing but a stuck-up,
pretentious little prig. She
adds that she got enthusiastic about him coming over, but a three year old
kid would have behaved better.
Irene tells Todd that he was better behaved when he was three - he hadn't
learnt how to become a
bumptious little snob then. She tells him to get out, and they shouldn't bother
seeing each other again. Todd
leaves. Amanda says sorry and that she won't let Todd drive, then follows
him. Irene looks upset.....
