Karen
walks into the living room and Patricia follows her. Karen asks Patricia if
they're going to talk or
not. Patricia tells her the company doesn't need her money. Karen says the
company needs more than her
money - it needs her. She adds that Gordon isn't well enough to run it, and
it needs to be run efficiently.
Patricia tells her SHE'S perfectly capable of doing all that's necessary.
Karen says that she does it
better, and she doesn't allow personal matters to interfere with her business
dealings. Patricia asks what
that's supposed to mean. Karen says if she was dumped by her lover, she wouldn't
dash out and invest in a
company to cover her inadequacies. Karen tells her that Matt Kennedy's left
her for dead and she has
thrown herself into work to forget him. Patricia asks who the hell she's been
talking to. Karen tells her she's
not interested in her personal life - her only concern is for the company.
She tells Patricia if she wants to
look after her investments, she'll advise the others to accept her offer.
Patricia opens the front door and
tells her to get out. She says there's no way Gordon would have someone like
her running the company, and
she'll make damn sure he doesn't. Karen wishes her the best of luck and leaves.
Patricia looks furious.
Later, Patricia is on the phone to Gordon. She tells him that Karen is a conniving,
interfering, pushy, self-
centred, evil woman, and Barbara was right - they've got to get rid of her.
Gordon tells her not to be so
hysterical. Patricia says she isn't, and he's got to make sure Beryl agrees
to take her offer. Gordon tells
her that Beryl will talk to him and decide for herself. He adds that so far
she hasn't given him one reason
why Karen shouldn't be their choice - all he's heard is a constant stream
of personal abuse. He shouts that,
if she comes up with some solid business reasons why Karen shouldn't be their
choice, she can call him back.
Gordon slams the phone down.

Back
at Toorak, Jill comes in with some coffee and David goes out for a walk. Jill
tells Patricia she knows
she was upset about Matt the other day, but maybe they can sort things out
about Robin's treatment. Patricia
stares at Jill, who asks what's wrong. Patricia tells her she's the only one
who knows about Matt - that's
how Karen Fox knew. Jill asks who Karen Fox is, and says the only person she
mentioned it to was Wayne
when he rang.
She adds that she was upset about her decision about Robin, but didn't say
too much to him
in case she found out. Patricia says she used it to get back at her, and she
can pack her bags and get out.
Jill can't believe it. Patricia shouts that things are bad enough without
her having somebody in the house
she can't trust. Jill tells her she doesn't know what she's talking about.
Patricia tells her again to pack
her bags and get out. Jill leaves the room.
Later, Patricia is sitting in the living room, looking tearful. David comes
in and tells her he's had enough of
her. He asks her what she thinks she's playing at, turfing Jill out. He tells
her she can do without him too -
he's moving back in with Beryl. Patricia starts sobbing, but David tells her
she's not going to pull that one
on him. Patricia says she's not trying to pull anything and she knows what
she did to Jill was wrong, but
she felt so betrayed. She adds that with Jill and him going, she won't have
anybody. She begs David to
stay with her. David looks unsure.

The
next day at Dural, Barbara and Patricia are sitting in the living room when
Gordon and Wayne come in.
Patricia says they're far better off accepting her offer, and apologises to
Gordon for the telephone call.
She explains she had an upsetting visit from Karen Fox, and allowed it to
get to her. She tells Gordon that
Karen managed to get some personal information about her that she used against
her, and the only way that
could have happened is through Wayne. She tells Wayne he wants Karen to win
because he's going to get
something out of it. Gordon tells Patricia he is proud of the way Wayne has
managed to keep the company
going. He tells her she hasn't managed to supply them with one tangible business
reason why they shouldn't
accept Karen's offer. He adds that Beryl rang through with her decision in
favour of Karen, and she is
outvoted. Patricia stands up and tells them she has no intention of working
with Karen Fox, and they're
all going to be very sorry when she's in control. She tells them she resigns,
and leaves the room.
On her way out, she runs into Karen, who tells her she's looking forward to
working with her. Patricia
tells her she's pulling out, but she hasn't seen the last of her. She tells
Karen she'd better start finding
the money to buy her out, and she might start up some competition. Patricia
continues that she knows a
fair bit about how the company is run, and can set up some healthy opposition.
She smiles and leaves.
