At
Toorak, the phone rings and Patricia answers it to hear Jill on the other
end. She tells Jill it's lovely
to hear her voice. Jill thanks her for taking up the payments on Robin's treatment
again. Patricia tells her
not to - she feels bad about dropping it in the first place. Jill says she's
coming down to Melbourne today
and thought she'd pop in and see her. Patricia tells her that would be lovely.
Mike walks in and Patricia
tells Jill she'll have to go, and they'll have a nice long chat when she gets
there. She hangs up and asks
Mike if he got onto Luke, and if he's interested. Mike tells her he's interested
enough to come for an
interview. He tells Patricia she's making the right move there - Luke's a
bright young fellow. Patricia says
that's the way he's always struck her - she just hopes he's interested in
what they have to offer him.
Later, Patricia answers the phone to Beryl and tells her David's not there.
She asks Beryl if she wants to
leave a message. Beryl says she would - if she thought it would get passed
on. Patricia tells her she's a
touch sour, and asks if it would have anything to do with David opting to
stay with her rather than go back
to her. Beryl tells her not to be too cocky - soon David will realise she's
pulling the wool over his eyes.
Patricia tells Beryl she knows about her putting up the money to send Lucy
back to her mother, and says
it won't be long before she's back in the home. Beryl tells her at least she
did something positive for the
child, which is more than she did. Patricia says she was prepared to take
responsibility for Lucy, but she
supposes it's so much easier to sign a piece of paper. She goads Beryl by
saying it's no wonder David
doesn't want to know about her. Beryl tells Patricia she's about to foster
a child from the home, and she
won't make a mess of it like she did with Lucy. She puts the phone down and
Patricia looks smug.

Later,
Jill arrives at Toorak and Patricia jokes to Mike that he should cover up
all the confidential papers
- the opposition's there! Mike says hello to Jill, as they've never met. Patricia
tells Jill that Mike's the new
manager. Jill says she won't tell Karen, but Patricia says it's hardly a secret.
Jill is sorry about letting the
cat out of the bag about Matt, but Patricia tells her it's all water under
the bridge as far as she's
concerned. Patricia asks Jill if Karen didn't mind her coming, and Jill says
that Karen said if they were
friends it was nothing to do with her. Patricia jokes that it was nice of
Karen, and she might reward her
with a few business tips from time to time. Luke arrives and Jill doesn't
seem thrilled to see him. Patricia
explains that Luke is there for an interview, and hopefully he's going to
be working for them. Jill tells the
others she has to leave and, on the way out, thanks Patricia for Robin's treatment.
Patricia tells her the
subject is closed. Jill leaves.
Patricia goes back into the living room and tells Luke she presumes that Mike
has filled him in on the type of
job they're offering. Mike says yes and Patricia asks Luke what he thinks.
Luke says he's not sure how long
it's going to last - what if they fold tomorrow? Patricia assures him they
won't. Luke tells her he's sure
that's been said before. He explains that the job he's got at the moment isn't
great, but it is secure. Mike
tells him you don't get anywhere without taking risks. Patricia tells Luke
there is someone else on the short
list who is the second choice, but if he can't give them an answer today....
Luke tells her it puts him on the
spot a bit. Patricia tells him to give it a go - he's got nothing to lose.
Luke tells them to count him in, and
Patricia welcomes him aboard.
Later, Patricia is pouring two glasses of champagne and saying they should
toast the success of their new
arrangement. She gives a glass to Roger Carlyle, who says he couldn't agree
more. He says they should toast
her for pulling off her part of the bargain. Patricia tells him there were
a few anxious moments - coaxing
his son to join them was one of the worst. Roger tells her if she hadn't convinced
Luke and Mike O'Brien to
come in, they wouldn't be doing business. They drink a toast to success.....
